Illegal Immigrants Detained

Reports from 22nd September state that 65 illegal immigrants have been detained by police in the Fethiye district of Muğla.

A collaborative operation between the local Fethiye Police Department and Migrant Smuggling and Human Trafficking teams, it was determined that a group of immigrants were preparing to escape off the Turkish coast to the Greek islands via illegal means. Police teams were able to discover the location of the group and followed as they were taken by minibus to a boat, moored at Gemiler Bay.

All 65 illegal immigrants, reportedly from Iraq, Palestine and Syria, were detained, along with the 7 individuals who had been coordinating the crossing. The boat was seized as part of the operation and questioning of those detained continues.
